An organization of Men’s Ministries for churches in the Presbyterian Church in America.
Men of the Covenant exists to form boys and men in grace and godliness, that they may be conformed to the image of Christ their Savior. Under the oversight of the elders of Christ’s church, it seeks to equip them for faithful service in every sphere of life—as disciples, heads of households, members of the church, and witnesses in the world.
Values:
- Foundation in the Word
- Devotion to the Triune God
- Mortification of Sin
- Formation of the Covenant Home
- Participation in the Church
- Exhortation among the brethren
- Vocation in the World
How It Started:
Following the founding of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and it’s first General Assembly, recommendations were sent out to the churches who had become part of the newly formed denomination. Recommendation 9 reads: “That each congregation be encouraged to promote a local men’s organization with a distinctly spiritual emphasis, to be known as Men of The Covenant.”
Decades later, faithful Teaching Elders and Ruling Elders are laboring to start Men’s Ministries in their churches, utilizing the name from the recommendation of the first General Assembly. We recognize that some churches have great Men’s Ministries already going, but the truth is that many churches struggle to put together and “adequate” Men’s Ministry apart from the occasional cook out and clay shooting event.
Where we are going:
What if we stopped shooting for “adequate” and started aiming for “excellent” as regards the ministry in churches geared towards men? The thing that Men need, first and foremost, is a robust life in Christ. Thus, the aim of the authors behind this project today are hoping to aid churches in starting a Men’s Ministry that will not only grow your men and boys spiritually, but will be something that your men look forward to attending.
It’s a simple framework: Fellowship. Prayer. Singing. Study.
